Description
This painting is about the peace of looking out over the sea and seeing clouds in the distance. Â They are so beautiful and calming. Â This one includes a small rainstorm and you can watch the rain from a distance.
This is the first direct painting I did after teaching myself to do fully glazed paintings in the style of the Masters. Â It was such a pleasure to paint directly again – so immediate and pure, but I found that adding a few glazes at the end added so much depth and volume. Â I found I absolutely loved painting the sea too – the texture of the water was so fun to create.
(Direct painting is when you mix a color and paint it directly onto the canvas. Â The paint is opaque and thicker, whereas when you paint with glazes the glaze is so thin it is transparent and the color gets built up slowly in layers. Â Direct painting is quicker and immediate, which is a joy. Â A fully glazed painting is painted first in black and white and then all the color is added via glazes. Â The glazed paintings take a lot more time, but really complex color combinations can be achieved. Â Here I’m playing with techniques – going back and forth as I find out what works for me in different scenarios.)
