This was my third painting on canvas after that first sky mural. I decided to push the boat out and try a sunset. Oh my goodness it was challenging! This painting was an important learning experience for me. I learned how incredibly complex sunset clouds are. They are full of volume, blending, color shifts, heaviness, lightness - oh, they are beautiful! But wow it was tricky to learn to paint that convincingly. I was originally attracted to this image because it was so peaceful, warm and calm. My heart wanted to sing when I looked at it. Eventually that feeling came out in the painting, and I was so thankful when it did.
