This painting is about hope and optimism as you enter a new phase of life. The light on the water reminds me of a stage. The clouds are like actors or new ideas forming. Any time a new phase of life begins, it feels like stepping out on a new stage and asking yourself “what will you do?” I hope any new phase begins with the peaceful, playful optimism of this scene. The family who commissioned this painting are in a transition phase with children beginning to go to college. This painting is dedicated to their joy, confidence and peace in this next stage

The original reference photograph is one I took off the coast of the Bahamas.  The sun was higher in the sky, so not included in the shot.  The clouds were intermittent, so the sun shone on the sea amongst them.
