Description

This painting was originally painted with a black and white underpainting, then the color was put on with thin glazes.  This is the technique the old Masters used.  Many, many glazes and layers were added to create the final effect.

Making this painting was a leap of faith for me.  I had made two smaller glazed paintings really successfully and I wanted to take on a challenge.  This painting was literally four times the size of my previous glazed paintings!  It was intimidating at first, but I learned so much through the process.  There was a long stretch in the middle when I had no idea whether I could pull it off, but I just kept going.  Near the end, I could start to see it coming together, but there was still a long way to go.  Eventually it came together beautifully.  Just like love breaking through conflict, it all turned out well in the end.
