This painting is about the gently emerging light that comes with daily spiritual practice. As you find time each day to quiet your mind, through whatever activity suits you, a sense of peace will slowly make itself felt in your heart. I meditate every day and I feel a "sky" growing inside me. This is a painting of that emerging feeling of lightness.
This painting was also a huge step forward for me in technique. This was my first glazed painting. Underneath all this color is an entirely black and white underpainting. I then added the color in thin glazes over the top. Many, many glazes were added to achieve the final effect. Since the color is added so slowly and carefully, complex color effects can be achieved. I had to really stretch myself to do this. It was quite a journey in learning, and I'm thankful it turned out so successfully.
